Indian Stock Market Hits New Milestones as Nifty Closes Above 26,000

India’s benchmark indices continued their record-breaking trajectory on Wednesday, with the Nifty closing above the 26,000 mark for the first time, driven by strong performances in energy, metal, and media stocks.

The BSE Sensex rose by 255.83 points, or 0.30 percent, to finish at 85,169.87, while the Nifty gained 63.75 points, or 0.25 percent, ending at 26,004.15. Both indices reached fresh intraday highs, with the Sensex peaking at 85,247.42 and the Nifty hitting 26,032.80.

Despite a weak start, the market remained largely range-bound until a surge in buying activity during the final 30 minutes propelled the indices to new highs.

Top gainers on the Nifty included Power Grid Corp, NTPC, Axis Bank, Grasim Industries, and Bajaj Finserv. Conversely, LTIMindtree, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consumer, Tata Motors, and Titan Company faced losses.

The broader market underperformed, with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices each slipping by 0.5 percent.

Sector performance varied, with power, metal, media, and realty indices gaining between 0.5 percent and 3 percent, while FMCG, PSU Bank, and IT sectors saw declines of 0.5 percent to 1 percent.
