14 July : Shri Balwinder Singh, an IPS officer of 1976 batch (Andhra Pradesh Cadre) has been appointed as Special Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation. Prior to his appointment as Special Director, he was holding the post of Additional Director in CBI and looking after Economic Offences and Bank Securities & Frauds Division and in addition to Anti Corruption work of South & Western India.

Shri Singh has earlier held several important positions in CBI from 1990 to 2000 including the post of Superintendent of Police, DIG & Joint Director. He has been associated with the investigations of a number of sensitive cases entrusted to CBI by the Supreme Court and High Courts that ended in convictions of the accused persons.
Shri Singh has held various positions in Andhra Pradesh, including Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad. He has also served as Additional Secretary in the Central Vigilance Commission, New Delhi.
Shri Singh, a resident of Ludhiana (Punjab), has done an M.Phil in Public Administration from Punjab University. He was decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Services in 1992 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services in 1998.
