Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh 22nd May:Seminar on Economic Globalsation and the Choice of Asia: Transition, Growth and Welfare is going to organize at Fudan University, Shangi, China from 25th to 27th May, 2008 by Shangi Fouram 2008 to advocate the issues related with Asians at Global level.Lt Gen (Retd.) Vijay Oberoi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM will participate in the same to advocate the Global issues related to Security in the Preview of Asia. After the retirement he is actively associated with different organizations and Founder Director , Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi till and Founder President, The War Wounded Foundation.
Lt Gen (Retd.) Vijay Oberoi now devotes considerable time in writing for newspapers and professional magazines, participating in seminars and panel discussions, and delivering lectures, mostly on security-related issues and international relations at military establishments. He was an International Fellow at The United States Army War College in USA in 1988-89. He has held a number of prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments, including the appointment of Defence Adviser at Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). He commanded a Strike Corps, and has also held the prestigious appointment of Director General Military Operations (DGMO).
After his retirement from the Army, Gen Oberoi had visited Taiwan, China, UK, Australia and Greece to participate in seminars. He had also visited Pakistan, in 2003, as part of a Goodwill Delegation, at the Track II level, to work for peace between India and Pakistan.
Lt Gen (Retd.) Vijay Oberoi has edited and contributed in the books ‘Army 2020’, ‘Special Forces’ and ‘Army Aviation’, published in 2004, 2006 and 2007 respectively. He has also contributed chapters to ‘Changing Perspective on National Security’ (2004); ‘India’s National Security – Annual Review 2003’, as well as ‘2006’; ‘Emerging India-Security and Foreign Policy Perspectives’ (2005); ‘The Indian Army – A Brief History’ (2005); South Asia Defence and Strategic Year Book 2007; SPs Military Yearbookc 2006-2007 and 2007-2008; and ‘Threat to Security’ (Manas 2007).
Lt Gen (Retd.) Vijay Oberoi is going to present his paper on – The Rise of China and India – Impact on the Asian balance of power.
