Chandigarh July 22:Vishva Harela Mahotsav celebrated in Women Hostels No. 6 (Mother Teresa Hall) in association with Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad today in the premises in the of the hostel of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Students and guests planted samplings like Ajwain, Mehndi, Lemon grass, and Aprajita. Prof. Indu Tewari was the Chief Guest. Sh. B.S. Nagarkoti, President Kumaon Sabha & Prof. Vinod Sharma of Deptt. of Economics were Guest of Honours..
Prof. Indu Tewari delineated about intrinsic relationship between nature and human beings. She emphasized the need for awareness about nature and shared how this festival is celebrated all over India as a tradition –a wonderful example of unity in diversity. She emphasized that our survival depends on nature. Hence this is duty of everyone to protect nature.
Hostel Warden Dr Manisha Sharma told that we have been celebrating Vishwa Harela Mahotsav for the last 2 years, its main objective is to tell the importance of Vishwa Harela Mahotsav among the students, this festival is basically a folk festival of Uttarakhand. On this day every family plants trees and worships nature. Dr. Mahesh Sharma said that if we all make tree plantation in regular, then we can easily overcome the growing problem of environment.
Due to the efforts of Dr. Harish Rautela ji, today the folk festival of Uttaranchal, Harela is being celebrated with great pomp all over the world. Dr. Manisha urged the students to take a vow that you will also take care of the children whom you are taking care of.
Warden of GH-6, welcomed all the guests and praised the Hon. Vice Chancellor &DSW’s for their support in saving the environment.
She honoured them by gifting medicinal plants. She appreciated the students for their active participation and efforts of hostel staff for making this event successful.
