Chandigarh, August 8, 2022: Classical music evening ‘Varsha RituSangeet Sandhya’ was held here today. The evening was organized by the Indian National Theatre to celebrate the arrival of the monsoon.
This program was organized in collaboration with Durga Das Foundation in the auditorium of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26.
Eminent Khayal singer Madhup Mudgal (Padma Shri) enthralled the audience with his performance in this classical music evening.
Madhup Mudgal (Padma Shri) is an eminent classical musician. He is extremely popular for his Khayal and Bhajan singing. Madhup Mudgal was born in New Delhi to Professor Vinay Chandra Moudgalya (Padma Shri), a famous classical musician of the Gwalior Gharana. Sh Moudgalya started the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi in 1939 from his home near Plaza Cinema, Connaught Place.
Madhup grew up in a musical environment where great musicians such as Pt. Omkarnath Thakur, Ali Akbar Khan and Kumar Gandharva used to meet and perform in baithaks regularly.
He is a regular performer at important platforms and festivals in India and abroad (among them the Fez Festival in Morocco, and at the Theatre de la Ville, Paris), and as a Top Grade artist of All India Radio, he features regularly on AIR’s National Programme. He sings at the Gandhi Jayanti programme organised by the Govt of India on 2nd October every year at Rajghat, Delhi.
He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by the Govt of India in 2006 and was honoured by the Sangeet Natak Academy in 2018.
Madhup Mudgal (Padma Shri) started the program with raga Miyan Malhar in which he first presented the composition “Kareem Naam Tero” in a delayed Ek Taal which was composed by Pandit Kumar Gandharva. He presented Jayo Re Badriya Chhota Khayal in Teen Taal leaving the audience spellbound. He enthralled the audience by presenting various other types of Malhar like Goud Malhar, Megh Malhar, Sur Malhar and other ragas.
During the program, Madhup Mudgal (Padmashree) was accompanied by Dr. Aravind Thatte on Harmonium and Kharag Singh on Tabla, while His daughter Sawani Mudgal gave him beautiful vocal support while Kushal Sharma and Deepak also provided melodious vocal support withTanpura accompaniment.
