The 4 day North East Inter-State & Open Badminton Championship 2010 concluded on 29th October 2010 at Indoor Badminton Stadium, Kohima with Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation & Flood Control Y. Patton as the Chief Guest of the closing function.
Speaking at the function, Y. Patton said that the game of badminton not only keeps our body fit and healthy but also acts as a link between different states and people. The Chief Guest called upon for the bond and brotherhood amongst the North Eastern states and pledge for unity so that development can take place at a bigger scale. He also called upon the players and the gathering to safe guard and defend the name of the North eastern states.
In a short report of the championship, Chief Referee, Gursharan Singh said that such kind of an open championship is not conducted anywhere in India and that it should be an encouragement to other organizing states also. Vice President Nagaland Badminton Association, Z. Lohe also stated that the tournament has helped in bringing the North Eastern states closer.
It is worth mentioning that officials from all over the North Eastern states conducted the championship while 30 personnel of the 15th (Mahila) IRB acted as the line judges. Highlights of the programme included a special song by Naga Idol finalist 2008, Kenei. Commissioner & Secretary, Temjen Toy chaired the function and vote of thanks was proposed by Vice President (Tech) NBA, Tali Jamir.
The closing function was followed by the final matches of the open tournament and the medal presentation ceremony.
The overall team championship was bagged by Assam. The team champions well represent North East in the National Inter Zone Championship, which will later be held in Jamshedpur during February 2011.
