19 Nov : Annual conference of North Zone Opthalmological Society (NZOS- UttaraEyecon-2010) was held at Mussoorie, Uttarakahand from October 22-24, 2010. This conference was attended by over 700 eye specialists. More than 80 presentations were made by eminent ophthalmologists from all over the country. Main highlights of the conference were Ophthalmic Premier league championship, symposium and panel discussion on newer IOL designs, Dr Prem Chandra Award for Best Free paper and sessions on cataract and refractive surgery, glaucoma, corneal and retinal disorders, Poster presentation in addition to Video assisted skill transfer session.
Punjab Phaco Tigers team consisting of eminent ophthalmologists Dr G.S Brar ( Chandigarh), Dr J.S Thind ( Jalandhar) and Dr Vikas Mittal (Ambala) under the captainship of Professor Jagat Ram from Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh emerged winner of Ophthalmic Premier League championship in which three other teams from Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai under the captainship of Dr D. Ramamurthy, Dr Keiki Mehta and Dr S. Natarajan respectively were also participants. Each team presented their best surgical video of innovative and challenging cases. The teams were judged by the top ophthalmologist of the country and audience pole comprising of over 700 ophthalmologists.
Dr Anupam Banger from Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh won Dr Prem Chandra award for her presentation on Ahmed Glaucoma Valve for glaucoma cases resistant to medical therapy. Over 30 young ophthalmologists competed for this award. Professor Indu Khurana from Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, PGIMS, Rohtak won the best poster award for her original work on “Experimental study of extraocular muscle sensitivity to occulo-depressor reflex”. Dr Jaspreet Sukhija from Advanced Eye Centre PGI, Chandigarh won best video on use of Silicone band in squint surgery. A team of ophthalmologists from Government Medical College, Chandigarh won the quiz on Uvea . Dr Keiki Mehta from Mumbai delivered Dr Vinod Arora Oration on “ Presbyopia- the final frontier” and Dr Lingam Gopal from Chennai delivered Dr C. Shekhar Grover oration on “ Intricasis of vitreoretinal surgery”.
