2 Oct : India is observing the 141st anniversary of the father of the nation Mahatama Gandhi and 106th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on Saturday. The International non violence day is being observed on Saturday on the ocassion of Gandhi Jayanti. President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior BJP leader L K Advani and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj were among the prominent persons who offered floral tributes at Rajghat, the memorial of the Mahatma, in New Delhi on Saturday. In her mesage to the Nation, the President asked people to rededicate themselves to reflect on the life, work and message of the father of the Nation. Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and other union Ministers also visited the memorial to offer their respects. Leaders of various religions also offered prayers at the Samadhi.
