The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has greeted the people on the joyous occasion of Deepawali.
In a message, Dr. Singh said that Deepawali, the festival of lights is a harbinger of joy and happiness. It is a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness and of hope over despair. That the festival is celebrated by people from diverse faiths is a significant affirmation of the great secular traditions of our country.
May this year’s Deepawali bring peace and prosperity to all our countrymen, the Prime Minister added.
A festival of lights is an opportunity
To light the dark corners of our hearts
To light the dark lives of others
To spread good cheer among the joyless hearts
To snuff out the burning desire inside us to harm others
To renew our pact with knowledge and wisdom
To serve Him by serving those who are left uncared
To renew our promise to our Creator
To keep His eternal flame alive in our hearts and minds
Shall we renew our resolve to reach out to the ones who need comfort around us?

As the candlelight flame,
Ur life may always be happiness’ claim;
As the mountain high,
U move without sigh;
like the white linen flair,
Purity is always an affair;
As sunshine creates morning glory,
fragrance fills years as Flory;
with the immaculate eternal smile,
attached to u mile after mile;
All darkness is far away,
As light is on its way;
Wishing all of u a very Happy Diwali.

Dear Colleagues,
As you all know festivals are and have been instrumental in linking people of
different customs or traditions among castes and classes close to each other
and reinforce unity. I wish that each one of us joins this festival in the
spirit of sharing love and happiness with each other, which will definitely
reinforce unity, peace and harmony amongst us.
I extend to all of you my sincere greetings on the eve of Diwali festival
which has also been known as Festival of Lights because of the hundreds and
thousands of small oil lamps or diyas lighted by Indian households. The
burning of these diyas are considered to be the lighted pathway of a person’s
expression of happiness and also a manner of paying respect to God, the
Supreme Power for attainment of health, prosperity, knowledge, financial
security and peace in one’s life.
Once again I congratulate you all on this happy occasion and looking for your
continued support for attaining further excellence. I must say that I have
been very much encouraged by the dynamism that I have seen in all my
colleagues to make this University a global player. I pray that all the days
of the year and not just the Deepawali day be a day of rejoicing, of light, of
effulgence, of cheerfulness.
