Chandigarh, June 5, 2010; Today to mark the World Environment Day, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration & Yuvsatta organized a ‘Herbal Walk’ at Botanical Garden in which 150 School students Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 46 D, Sector 44D & Govt. Model High School, Sector 22C participated. Later in a formal function the Chief Guest Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Finance Secretary cum Secretary Environment, Chandigarh Administration planted a sapling and honoured head of participating Schools and addressed the students.
Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included Saruabh Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests & Director, Department of Environment, Ashwani Kumar, Land Acquisition Officer, the Chief Engineer, PJS Dhadwal, Addl. Director, Department of Environment & Parmod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta.
Giving examples from daily life Sanjay Kumar motivated students and teachers present on the occasion to become ‘green citizens’ and live life simply without putting extra pressure on natural resources like land, air, water & electricity. He further said that for the better future of mankind, it is high time to follow the guiding principals of simplicity, austerity, care and concern for environment.
On the occasion Sanjay Kumar also honoured winning Schools of recently organized Inter-School Biodiversity Hunt and they were Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 46D, Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 35 D, The Gurukul, Panchkula, Delhi Public School, Sector 40, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 33D, Govt. Model High School, Sector 22C & Gurukul Global School, IT Park.
