Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh organized its 26th Annual Prize Giving Function in the College premises. As many as 432 students were awarded prizes for excelling in the field of academics, sports and co-curricular activities. Thirteen students were honoured with Roll of Honour (for Academics Manju Rawat, Preetinder , Divya, Manjit, Shilpa , Madhu, Niharka , Shatakshee , Swati ,Jyoti and Neha and for sports; Renu and Devinder Kaur ). Thirty students were honoured with College Colour for outstanding performance in Cultural Activities and Sports. Thirty Three students were awarded University Merit Prizes while two hundred three students were awarded academic prizes for securing positions in House Examination.
Fifty two students were awarded mementoes for cultural activities, sports, student council, NCC, NSS and Blood Donation. Amarjit – Beena Memorial and Baba Kundan Singh Trust Scholarships awarded to 19 students for academics with cash prize of Rs 500 /-. Shatakshee of B.Sc III (Biotech Honours) declared All Round Best Student of the College for the session 2007- 08. Sh.Pradip Mehra ,IAS ,Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest on the occasion while speaking on the occasion he exhorted the efforts of the faculty and students and complimented the prize winners. He announced sanctioning of an Auditorium for the college and ensured that it may be completed by next year. He lauded the efforts of the College in providing a number of new courses keeping in view the myriad challenges faced by students in rapidly changing competitive environment. He was of the view that while it was good to participate in various other activities such as Yoga, Weight Lifting, etc, yet laid a lot of emphasis upon the importance of studies for gaining employment. Mrs.Raji P.Shrivastava, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration was the guest of Honour on the occasion .She emphasized upon the need of book reading habit and constant hard work. Principal, Mrs. Shashi Malik, highlighted the achievements of the College during the current session. About 150 units of blood were donated by the staff and students. 250 students got placements in different Multi National Companies like, DELL, IBM, GENPACT, WIPRO,CONVERGYS, KEANE, HCL Technologies and ACCENTURE .From the coming academic session new academic programmes viz; B.Sc Bioinformatics (Elective) and UGC Sponsored Career Oriented programmes in the field of Bioinformatics, Environmental Auditing and Tourism and Travel Management will be introduced . University Grants Commission has sanctioned a grant of Rs Seventeen Lakhs as Seed Money under COP Scheme .During the current session an Eco-Friendly-Park has been developed by the Horticulture Department of UT Administration for the better ambience of the college.
