Cherry Saluja, Chandigarh : July 21 : Chandigarh city commuters have another reason of joy and comfort today when Five State of the art air-conditioned buses were flagged off at the UT Secretariat, Sector 9, Chandigarh, by the Home cum Transport Secretary Sh Ram Niwas.
IG Police Sh Pradip Shrivastava and SSP Sh SS Srivastava were also present at the occasion.
These 32 seater Red colored Luxury Coaches come with many passenger friendly features to ensure that the journey of the passengers is a comfortable one. The buses are equipped with i-control technology, GPS fitted, powerful individual AC, provision of wheel chair locking system, Door sensor, the control of which is with the driver. These will ensure that the bus does not move until a passenger is safely inside or outside of the vehicle. If accidentally passenger get stuck in between the closing door, the door retracts automatically.
Addressing the media persons, Sh Niwas said, “We hope that this adds to the convenience of the travelers. More buses will be added to the fleet by August 15, 2010. These buses are equipped with individual ac ducts which may be opened or closed as per the convenience of the passenger sitting there. The buses also have a special provision for wheelchairs of the handicapped persons and boarding or getting down off this bus will be made convenient with the help of a folding platform. ”
The air curtains at the door ensure that the insides of the vehicle remain dust-free. Electronic route boards are present on three sides of the bus for the information of the passengers. The buses come with a seating capacity of 32 persons with adequate space for nearly forty more to stand. Any malfunctioning in the vehicle will be highlighted on the dashboard of the bus.”
The fare of these buses is also very nominal and do not effect the pockets of the public ie Rs.10 for the first 5 km and Rs. 15 for the rest, which is quite nominal. All the bus stops on the city are equipped with GPS instruments & display screens, which tells the passengers that when the next bus is about to arrive and of which route.
