Chandigarh Sanjay Pahwa: Bharatiya Janata Party Chandigarh strongly condemned the misuse of power and position by Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the Mayor election of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Sh. Sanjay Tandon, State President and Sh. Arun Sood State General Secretary of BJP said that Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs have ashamed the house and insulted & overruled the Presiding Authority by misusing his power as Union Minister. Both said that When the Presiding Authority has given ruling that no member will carry his mobile while casting his/her vote, it is very shameful and unfortunate that Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal openly overruled it and declared that he will not listen to the Presiding Authority and will carry his mobile while casting his vote and no body can stop him, which clearly shows that the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs have no respect for the Presiding Authority and doesn’t care about decorum of the house. They further said that the conduct of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal in the house was dictatorial and he has misused his power to illegal get elected Sh. Ravinder Pal Singh.
Sh. Sanjay Tandon, State President and Sh. Arun Sood State General Secretary of BJP said that Sh. Jagjit Singh Kang and all other opposition party Councillors of BJP, SAD and BSP have yesterday submitted a representation to the Commissioner Municipal Corporation demanding that mobile phone should be banned at the time of election for maintaining the secrecy of ballet, but the corporation authorities and the Presiding Authority under the pressure of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal failed to maintain the secrecy of ballet. In the earlier elections a single curtain was used for casting of votes, but today on the direction of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal Secretary of Municipal Corporation covered that curtain with thick white sheets so that Congress Councillors may be felicitated to take photographs of their ballet papers to show to Mr. Bansal as Mr. Bansal was apprehending that large number of Congress Councillors are going to cross vote in favour of Mr. Jagjit Singh Kang. They further said that today all the Congress Councillors clicked photographs of their ballet papers to show it to Mr. Bansal.
Sh. Sanjay Tandon, State President and Sh. Arun Sood State General Secretary of BJP stated that after the counting of votes Sh. Jagjit Singh Kang was declared winner on the post of Mayor by Presiding Authority in open house, But Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal alongwith other Congress Councillors started threatening and pressurizing the Presiding Authority and under the threat and force of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal the Presiding Authority illegally counted invalid votes of Congress Candidate and illegally reversed its declaration. They said that even the Congress Councillor Sh. Davinder Singh Babla, who is not even election agent of Congress Candidate took all the ballet papers from the table of Presiding Authority and went to show them to Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, which was totally against the norms and rules and on the other side when Sh. Surinder Jagota, counting agent of Sh. Jagjit Singh Kang asked the Presiding Authority to show him the ballets to know that how the Presiding Authority has reversed his decision, Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal illegally dictated the Presiding Authority not to show ballet papers to Sh. Surinder Jagota and thereafter under the protest of whole opposition the Presiding Authority under the pressure of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal illegally declared Sh. Ravinder Pal Singh as winner.
Sh. Sanjay Tandon, State President and Sh. Arun Sood State General Secretary of BJP stated that Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal by misusing his power and position pressurized and influenced the Municipal Secretary and Presiding Authority to illegally get elected Congress Candidate, which is brutal murder of democracy.
Sh. Jagjit Singh Kang, Independent Candidate for Mayor Elections supported by all opposition parties said that in Mayor Election I am not the loser and at end of the day Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal is ultimate loser as he has lost his credibility, status and character by showing his true face by rigging the election of Mayor. He further said that his revolt from Congress was on issue of corruption and today’s episode will further strengthen my fight against corruption by Congress leaders and Councillors. Mr. Kang said that Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal by misusing his power, position and illegal means hardly saved number of his Councillors and on the other side I have started my fight against Congress’s corruption alone and now more than half of the Councillors are with me and this is my real victory.
Sh. Arun Sood and Sh. Jagjit Singh Kang said that what happened in the house of Corporation today was totally illegal and undemocratic. They further said that 7-8 votes of Congress Candidate were invalid, which were considered valid by Presiding Authority under the pressure and influence of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal. They further said that the declaration of Presiding Authority that Ravinder Pal Singh is elected is illegal and void and we are going to challenge this illegal decision in the Court of Law.
