Chandigarh, 16th October 2023- The Oath Administering Ceremony of the newly appointed Chief Commissioner, Sh. Arun Kumar, IAS (Retd.), Chandigarh Right to Service Commission was held today at Punjab Raj Bhawan. The ceremony was graced by the honourable presence of Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Administrator of Chandigarh, who administered the oath to Sh. Arun Kumar.
Sh. Arun Kumar brings with him a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in the civil services. His notable assignments in the Government of Haryana, the Union Government, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh have shaped his career and expertise.
In Haryana, Sh. Arun Kumar has held key positions in various departments, leaving an indelible mark of his dedication and commitment. He has served as Deputy Commissioner in Faridabad, Rohtak, and Jhajjar. He has also successfully led the Excise & Taxation department and held important positions as Director of Industries & Commerce, Mines, Environment & Renewable Energy, and Member-Secretary of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board.
Notably, Sh. Arun Kumar possesses extensive experience in the Power Department, having served as the Managing Director of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd and Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd. His leadership extended to the transport sector as well, where he served as the Director General of State Transport, overseeing the operations of Haryana Roadways.
In the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Sh. Arun Kumar’s exemplary service as Deputy Commissioner for two years left an indomitable legacy.
Moving to the Government of India, Sh. Arun Kumar was appointed Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, where he dedicated nine years of his service to civil aviation affairs. His roles encompassed various crucial areas, including Airports, International Cooperation, Bilateral Agreements, Regulatory Affairs (Safety), and Financial Adviser. His remarkable journey reached its pinnacle when he served as the Director General of Civil Aviation for approximately four years and was in charge of India’s Aviation Safety. During this period, the DGCA transformed itself & embraced eGCA a completely faceless & technology driven platform which offered all its services through its e-portal. Also, most significantly, under his stewardship, India’s global aviation safety ranking in International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO, a UN Agency) Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme improved upwards from 112 to 55, the best ever.
