Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,May 05 : Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) is the State Designated Agency (SDA) for implementation of the Energy Conservation Act-2001 in the state of Punjab established under the guidelines of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India. PEDA has taken various initiatives to promote energy efficiency and energy conservation in the different sectors of the economy in the state through respective departments, organizations, industries and institutions. Demo projects have also bee initiated in different sectors such as industrial, agricultural, Municipal, commercial and domestic. For promotion and encouragement towards energy conservation, PEDA launched a scheme to give state level energy conservation awards to the facilities / units who have taken extra efforts for efficient utilization, management and conservation of energy during the last two years in the state of Punjab.State Level Energy Conservation Awards-2010 were distributed today to the industrialists/ representatives of the establishments / organizations in a brief function held in the conference room of PEDA. While distributing the awards to the winners, Bhai Manjit Singh, Chairman, PEDA emphasized on the need of energy conservation and energy efficiency in the state to meet the gap between the demand and supply of power. Sh. T.P.S. Sidhu, Chief Executive, PEDA highlighted the initiatives taken under energy conservation programs in the state. The awareness of energy conservation is being created through workshops / seminars, print / electronic media and mainly through school children by organizing painting/ debate competitions on the theme of energy conservation / energy efficiency.
The function was attended by different category of consumers from Energy Intensive Industries (Designated Consumers), SME, Commercial Buildings, Govt. Buildings, Architects, Municipal Corporation. Sh. Balour Singh, Director, PEDA thanked all the participants and requested to adopt energy conservation measure at their works and residences.
