Manoj Godara, CHANDIGARH, November 25: The Panjab University Syndicate today extended the date of submission of thesis of Ph. D. till June 30, 2011 by the candidates enrolled under old regulations. The date of submission of thesis by the candidates earlier was fixed as December 31, 2010.
The Syndicate paid homage by observing two minutes silence to express deep sense of sorrow on the sad demise of the mother of the Chancellor, Dr Hamid Ansari, Mrs Aasiya Begum on November 17.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.C. Sobti in a statement informed the House about the university having been considered to be a Centrally Funded Institute and having been included under Section 2 (d) (iv) of the CEI Act. The Vice-Chancellor also informed about the adhoc grant of Rs.150 crore received from the UGC for the implementation of the provision of the Act.
The Vice-Chancellor also informed that a grants of Rs. one crore and 45 lakh have been received by the departments of Biotechnology and Anthropology, respectively, under DST FIST Programme.
The Syndicate felicitated Prof. P.S. Jaswal on his having been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Hidayatullah National University of Law.
The Syndicate also felicitated Mr Anshuman Shukla, doing Ph.D. at UIPS on his having been awarded the Global Health Travel Award of Bill and Milinda Gates Foundation.
The Syndicate also felicitated Prof. Akshaya Kumar, Department of English and Cultural Studies on his having been acknowledged for his book of literary criticism titled “Politics and Culture: Essays on Indian Texts and Contents” by ‘World Literature Today’, the second oldest literary journal in the world.
The Syndicate also felicitated Prof. Rumina Sethi for her book titled “Politics of Post Colonisation – Empire, Nation and Resistance” released at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The Syndicate also felicitated Dr Narinder Singh Sidhu, Principal, Guru Nanak National College, Doraha for his having been elected to the Senate of the University from the Principal’s Constituency in a recent by-poll.
The Syndicate approved the Visiting Professorship offered to augment the academic standards of Panjab University to Dr Krishan Lal, former Director, NPL in Physics Department; Dr D.K. Chadha, former Chairman, CGWB in Geology Department; Dr Dinesh Pandey, Member Exploration, ONGC, Dehradun in Geology Department and Dr S.C. Dhiman, Chairman, CGWB in Geology Department.
The Syndicate also noted the receipt of grant of Rs. 8 crore for water harvesting project under current scheme.
The Syndicate approved the temporary charge of following Chairs to be given to Dr Gurpal Singh, DES of the Bhai Vir Singh Chair, and to Dr I.D. Gaur, DES of the Baba Farid Chair. Also the post held by Dr Jagjit Singh was approved to be re-designated as of Guru Granth Sahib Professor.
For a bigger expansion of the health facilities and strengthening the infrastructure, the Syndicate approved to rename the Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Health Centre as Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Department of Health.
The Syndicate approved imparting of free education and arranging for vocational and degree courses to the dependent children of Leprosy Affected Persons (LAPs).
The Syndicate approved the award of degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) to the following candidates: Mr Pushpender Kumar, Mr Puneet Kumar, Ms Sarabjeet Kaur, Ms Shalu Jindal, Mr Amit Sharma, Mr Pramod Kumar Soni, Mr Ajay Gauri, Ms Simin Anbarshahi, Ms Bharati Garg, Ms Shilpi Nangloo, Mr Ankush Bhardwaj, Mr Gurcharan Singh Ghotra, Ms Mandeep Kaur Dhillon, Mr Dalip Kumar Shah, Mr Vijay Prashar, Ms Balwinder Kaur, Ms Faranak Omidian, Ms. Sanjana Saggi nee Rani Sanjeev Rajen Chaudhary, Ms Sheeba Bedi nee Sheeba Patheja, Mr Amit Mohindroo and Mr Sikander Singh.
