Rajeej Jain : 24th July, 2010: In order to inculcate love & compassion for the animals, in the minds of children during the formative years of development of their personalities, the ‘Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals’ (SPCA), Chandigarh has decided to set up ‘Kindness Clubs’ in many educational institutions of this area. Accordingly, after farming a Kindness Club in Govt. Model High School in Sector-22, Chandigarh on 20th July, the SPCA constituted another Kindness Club today in BSH Arya Senior Secondary School, Sohana, near the outskirts of this Union Territory.
Dr. J.C. Kochar, Hony. Gen. Secretary of the Society explained that each Kind Club would comprise of 20-25 students as members, two teachers as guides & the Principal/Headmaster as Chief Guide, & they would regularly take up various extra-curricular activities for highlighting need of love & compassion for the animals.
Sh. Gian Chand Aggarwal, President of the Society said that people inflicting un-necessary pain & torture upon innocent animals, are committing great sin, and this must be stopped by motivating them for desisting these cruelties.
Dr. S.K. Sharma, Patron of the Society said that horrible cruelties against poor animals are rampart everywhere & it is the moral & religious responsibility of every good human being to stop these atrocities through some concrete action. He told that Govt. of India had promulgated ‘Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960’ to prosecute persons indulging in various cruelties against animals. He exhorted students to convey this urgent message amongst their family members, friends & neighbours, & told them to help injured & sick animals by arranging their prompt shifting to the SPCA Hospital.
Sh. Surinder Sharma, Chairman of ‘Publicity Committee’ of the Society, advised all the members & guides of the Kindness Club to organize lectures, dramas, poster making, painting & essay competitions, rallies, etc. for highlighting the requirement of love & compassion for the hapless animals.
Sh. Pawan Sharma, Principal of the school thanked SPCA functionaries for setting up a Kindness Club & for encouraging young minds to imbibe compassion for dumb animals & for carrying out regular extra-curricular activities towards this noble cause.
