CHANDIGARH, OCT 7 : Former president of the Wrestling Federation of India, Dr Mahinder Singh Malik, IPS (retired) congratulated the Indian medal winners in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
“The wrestlers, mostly originally hailing from Haryana, have accounted for four gold out of 12 India have won so far. With Nirmala Devi and Geeta also entering the final round, India are further assured of medals in wrestling,” said an elated former Director General of Police, Haryana, Dr Malik.
He gave all credit to the State Sports Policy, formed under the supervision of Haryana Olympic Association president Abhey Singh Chautala. “The result-oriented was approved and implemented by the Indian National Lok Dal Government, headed by Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala.
“Today’s results are the fruits of the implementation of the Sports Policy framed by Abhey Chautala. Weightlifter Karnam Malleswari, who claimed bronze in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, was felicitated by the Om Prakash Chautala Government by giving Rs 25 lakh under the scheme “Kaun Banega Crorpati”. The Chautala Government had announced a cash prize of Rs 1 crore to gold medal winner in the Olympic Games, silver medalist Rs 50 lakh and bronze medalist Rs 25 lakh. Besides the lucrative cash prizes, other the government has promised other incentives,” recalled sports administrator Dr MS Malik.
Lashing out at the present Congress Government’s lop-sided sports policy, Dr Malik said that “the Haryana sportspersons would have done wonders had the government restrained itself from political interference in sports. The Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Government is not safeguarding the interest of sportspersons rather it is promoting itself through sports.”
