June 23 : NIT in Hamirpur district is the premier Institution of the Country and State Government would provide all possible help for its expansion. This was revealed by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister while speaking on the occasion of foundation stone laying ceremony of Rs. 16.63 crore five story Electronic and communication Engineering Block in National Institute of Technology campus at Hamirpur today.
Chief Minister said that out of the five national highways sanctioned, three were passing through the Hamirpur district. He said that admissions to the national level Hotel Management Institute would start from current academic session, thereby adding to quality vocational education facilities. He said that a NIFT Centre had also been set up at Chheb in Kangra district, which was first in North India. He said that Hamirpur by-pass construction work was in progress to facilitate the by-passers. He added that ESI Hospital and Medical College were being constructed at Nerchowk in Mandi district.
Prof. Dhumal said that construction work for IIT campus was also going on near Mandi and many more national level institutions were coming up in the State, which could help State emerge as a centre of par excellence learning in the Country. He said that ESI Hospital and Medical College, Nerchowk, would start functioning in the near future. State Government was endeavouring to give best quality vocational education facilities and produce best of the professionals to feed the global markets, where private participation was being encouraged.
Chief Minister said that State Government was preferring run of the river hydel power projects where maximum discharge of 15 percent of available water had been made mandatory. He said that projects up to 2 MW were exclusively reserved for Himachalies entrepreneurs. He said that 18000 MW hydel power execution was targetted by the year 2017 and the State Government was ensuring Rs. 1600 crore out of hydel power projects.
Prof. Dhumal said that NIT was progressing by leaps and bounds, where best of the educational aids and quality educational environment had been created. He said that the teaching standard had increased substantially and even the World Bank had rated the institute as one of the best in the Country. He said that 100 percent placement facility in the campus was available to students of the institution. He said that NIT Hamirpur was ranked as one of the best vocational institution of the country. He said that the sprankling campus was capable of producing best professionals who were executing in different disciplines earning laurels to the institution and the State. He said that even former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also appreciated the educational facilities available in the country, especially NIT Hamirpur that he had visited.
Dr. R.S. Chauhan, Chairman, BOG, NIT extended a warm welcome to Chief Minister and other dignitaries and thanked him for motivating institution excel on professional fronts. He apprised Chief Minister of some functional problems in the campus. He said that globally recognised vocation education was being imparted to students and underlined the need for skill upgradation of other Technical personnel.
Prof. I.K. Bhatt, Director, NIT, welcomed Chief Minister and detailed institutional activities. He said that additional infrastructural facilities had been created in the campus. He said that online library facilities were being created to update students about total innovation.
