Bhopal:Saturday, February 27 : Forest Minister Shri Sartaj Singh has made an appeal to people to make less use of wood for Holika Dahan and not to harm green trees.
Extending Holi greetings to the residents of the state, Shri Sartaj Singh said that utility of trees is not confined to mere environmental balance, but they are also basic requirement of sustaining life.
He said that large quantity of wood is used for Holika Dahan. This year Holika Dahan should be observed in a symbolic way with less use of wood and people should cooperate in the efforts to reduce consumption of wood as a fuel in the national interest.
Shri Sartaj Singh said that in the enthusiasm of Holika Dahan, harm is done to even green trees. Though enlightened people are aware about green trees’ importance but sometimes people take advantage of the occasion and cut green trees. This is not commensurate with the spirit of this festival. He said that efforts to protect trees can be undertaken only through common man’s cooperation. Therefore, use less quantity of wood for Holika Dahan and don’t do harm to green trees.
