Chandigarh: Much awaited 5th National Rowing Indoor Championship organized by the Chandigarh Rowing Association (CRA) was inaugurated by Patrick the high commissioner of Canada to India in the presence of Dr Anmol Rattan Sidhu, the president of CRA on Saturday.
More than 20 teams from all across India are competing for the top position during this three day long rowing event that took off on behalf of the Rowing Federation of India at Gymnasium Hall of Punjab University.
During the inauguration of the event, the president of CRA Dr Sidhu while addressing the gathering said, “It’s a matter of great honor for the rowing fraternity to have organized an event of this mega scale after a gap of about 21 year which is nothing less than a feather in a cap for CRA.”
Dr Sidhu thanked the president of rowing federation of India Mrs Rajlaxmi Singh Deo for allotting this National Indoor Rowing Championship. He also thanked his association members for extending their fullest support while organizing this mega event as well as the participants and coaches of over 20 teams who travelled all the way from their home states to participate in this national level indoor rowing tournament.
He also presented Momentoes and bouquet to the Secretary General RFi Mr Sri Ram and Treasurer Mr Navabudin Ahmed.
Dr Sidhu paid special thanks to the Honorary Secretary of CRA Rajiv Sharma and his team for putting in their hard work and dedication in making this event a grand success.
Chief Guest of the event Patrick HebertConsul General of Canada in Chandigarh in his address mentioned about the World Indoor Championships to be held in Mississauga, Canada next year and extend an invitation to Chandigarh Rowing Association for their participation in his country.
During the day, Hebert also enjoyed the cultural show organized by the girls of National Institute of Nursing Education, PGI MER who gave an energetic Gidha dance performance at the inauguration of the championship and savored Indian food prepared during this event.
The 5th National Indoor rowing event at Chandigarh is a FISA sanctioned event in the run up to 2023 World Indoor Championship at Missinssauga, Canada. FISA is World Rowing Federation International government body for rowing with its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
