2 May : Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living (PAHAL), voluntary organisation working for Health Awareness in society organised free Bone Mineral Density (BMD) and Body Mass Index ( Obesity Marker) checkup today at Patna. Camp was inaugurated by Dr Mrs Kiran Sharan. Speaking on the occassion, Medical Director of PAHAL, Dr Diwakar Tejaswi informed that abdominal circumference of more than 90 cm for Indian Males, 80 cm for Indian females and BMI of more than 23 is danger cut off points. Obesity can lead to Hypertension, Diabetes and other components of Metabolic Syndrome like high cholesterol. Dr Tejaswi also said that post menopausal Indian women’s are highly prone to develop osteopenia and osteoporosis which can lead to fractures.
150 persons were examined free of cost. More than 60% women’s were found to be osteopenic and 10% had obesity. They were adviced lifestyle modification and medicines were also distributed free of cost.
