July 22, 2009 :Shri J.P. Nadda, Forest Minister presided over the meeting of senior forest officers and reviewed the preparations being made by Forest Department for plantation during current financial year in the State.
The Minister said that the State Government had launched an ambitious campaign ‘Jan Jan Sanjivani Van Abhiyan’ under which as many as 15 lacs herbal plants were planted in the State during last year. He said that Sanjha Van Prabandhan Samitis would be actively involved in the implementation process of various schemes initiated by the department. He said that about one crore herbal saplings would be planted in the State over 2500 hectares of land and the services of 525 such active samitis would be taken.
Shri Nadda said that for effective implementation of this extensive plantation programme a meeting of these samitis would be convened on 2nd August, 2009 which would be attended by the representatives of all the selected samitis. He said that Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister would launch various new schemes of the department aimed at involving people in forestry programmes on the occasion.
The Minister informed that the State level Van Mahotsav would be celebrated at Shimla on 8th August this year which would be presided over by Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister after which the plantation programme would be carried out on massive scale from 9th August in which all the MLAs of 68 assembly segments would be involved actively.
Shri Avay Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Forests, Shri Vinay Tandon, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and senior Officers of the Forest Department were present on the occasion.
