The awareness program organized by the Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology department of PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with support groups on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day was a great success. The event aimed to educate and raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and to provide support for quitting tobacco.
Dr. Gourav Prakash, Professor,Clinical Hematology and Oncology, highlighted the growing vulnerability of younger people, especially students, to smoking. He emphasized that both hookah or cigarette and e-cigarettes are equally harmful as they contain nicotine.
Dr. Charanpreet and Dr. Arihant Jain addressed the myths associated with smoking and its impact on physical appearance. They also emphasized the increased danger posed by smoking to pregnant females.
The event included various activities such as a poster-making competition and a street play organized by students from Panjab University. Participants also had the opportunity to hear a speech delivered by Tanya.
Dr. Gaurav, Dr. Alka Khadwal, Dr. Pratibha, Dr. Lakshya, and Dr. Pankaj provided valuable information about the harmful effects of smoking and shared preventive measures with the participants. Sanjeevani Life Beyond Cancer conducted a quiz contest, in which Dr. Charanpreet and Dr. Arihant answered questions as panelists.
The winners of the poster-making competition were Aniket, Simran, and Neha, who received first, second, and third prizes, respectively. All participants received certificates of appreciation. The Breast Cancer Trust provided refreshments for everyone present.
The event was attended by faculty clinical Hematology & oncology, Dr. Pankaj Arora, Hospital Administration and members of the Breast Cancer Society. Representatives from Sanjeevani Life Beyond Cancer, and patients and their relatives. The event saw a total of 150 participants.
Dr. Alka khadwal and Dr. Pankaj commended the initiative taken by the Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology department and extended their best wishes for similar programs in the future. The event successfully raised awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and provided valuable support for those seeking to quit tobacco.
