JAMMU, MARCH 02 (INFO)- Minister of State for PHE and Industries, Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma today reviewed water supply position in Jammu division at meeting held with PHE authorities.
The Meeting was attended by the Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, Superintending Engineer PHE, Jammu, Executive Engineers City, Rrural and of all district headquarters of Jammu province.Threadbare discussion was held on position of ongoing water supply schemes and new schemes to be sanctioned for augmentation of drinking water supply in the division.
The meeting was informed that in Rajouri work on 44 Water Supply Schemes under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) is in progress at a cost of Rs. 18.44 crore, out of which, 5 schemes have been completed so far.
In Reasi, a project of Rs. 9.80 crore under UIDSSMT was submitted for augmentation of drinking water supply. Over Rs.60 lakh have been released for the completion of tube well at Numble besides work on 34 schemes under ARWSP at a cost of Rs. 73 crore is in progress and 8 schemes have been completed so far. Similarly, out of 39 ARWSP schemes, 8 water supply schemes have been completed in Poonch.
It was informed in the meeting that out of the total damaged 115 water supply schemes in Udhampur district a number of schemes have been restored for which Rs. 60 lakh have been incurred. The slow sand water filtration plant at Sudmahadev has been completed at a cost of of Rs. 1.50 lakh, besides work on filtration plant at Kud will be started soon.
Likewise, in Kathua District, it was stated that 9 tube wells and 12 overhead tanks have been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 23 crore under UIDSSMT, out of which, one tube well has been completed and 2 others are in progress. To tackle water scarcity in Kandi belt of the district, a comprehensive project of Rs. 1.91 crore has been submitted to government for replacement of dysfunctional machines and stabilizers.
It was further told in the meeting that 76 ongoing schemes under ARWSP are in progress in Jammu rural while 6 schemes have been taken up under Kandi Plan.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister exhorted upon the engineers to put in their best services to ensure timely completion of all ongoing water supply schemes. He instructed them to formulate new water supply schemes plans keeping in view the availability of natural water resources. He said prime motto of the government was to provide better basic amenities to the people.
