Chandigarh: October30, 2008 : Aimed at underlining the importance of quality maintenance, especially when dealing with aircraft and helicopters, 3 BRD (3 Base Repair Depot) of the Indian Air Force celebrated October 2008 as the Quality Month, which concluded at the Air Force station here today. Gp Capt SK Saigal, Station Commander, 3 BRD AF addressed the gathering at the closing ceremony and stressed on the importance of quality. He also gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions.
As part of the celebrations, best quality slogan, best quality poster and best quality circle competitions were conducted at the station which generated an overwhelming response from the air force personnel and their families.
The month long celebrations were aimed at bringing the 2100-strong technical manpower, from various disciplines of engineering, technology and support services at 3 BRD, together in enhancing quality in every sphere of BRD activity. Special stress was laid on the power of indigenisation where each product of aviation application is being attempted to be manufactured for the first time to achieve self reliance.
No. 3 BRD AF, a premier Depot of IAF is involved in overhauling of MI-8 and MI-17 helicopters, aero-engine and their aggregates including aero-engines of AN-32 and IL-38 aircraft. The Depot, though being a military establishment, has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification by Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi.
A quality assurance squadron named as QAS squadron, headed by a Wing Commander ensures quality coverage during overhaul and repair of helicopters, aero-engines and various other components before delivery to the operational units. A team of officers and inspectors specially trained on the aircraft system carryout inspection at every stage of technical activity during overhaul process to ensure conformance to the laid down standards of meeting airworthiness requirement.
