Dr. Avnish Jolly, The India Post, News Team, Hyderabad, 8th January, 2009 :With advancement of technology and cellular lifestyle now police supplement its Dial 100 facility, the Hyderabad police have now added the short messaging service to clamp down on atrocities in the city.
This initiative is also being extended to help people facing immediate danger to life and property, or come across a criminal who is wanted by the police, as also when they are caught in serious traffic jam for a long time. In the beginning, the cops, in association with both GSM and CDMA mobile service providers will soon send out messages to select people asking them to report any suspicious individuals or activities including dangerous objects in their surroundings. The messages will also ask citizens to be alert about abandoned bags and unattended vehicles parked in busy areas for long hours, among others.
B. Prasada Rao, Police Commissioner, Hyderabad advocated that if people are having a complaint on traffic, they will have to type "t", followed by a space and the brief complaint. Similarly, for crime related issues one has to type "c", for harassment of women "w" and for complaints on terror "te".
