23 Feb : The portals of famous Hindu shrine of Kedarnath, perched on Garhwal Himalayas, will reopen for pilgrims from 30th April.This was decided on Monday, on the occasion of Mahashivratri, in a meeting of temple committee members in the presence of administrative officials at Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath, which is the wintry sojourn of Lord Shiva, Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee officials said.
Doors of the shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri — collectively known as Chardham, are closed during winters as the area remain snow-covered.With the onset of summers, the doors of the temples are once again thrown open to the pilgrims in April-May.
