Dr Meenakshi Dubey Pathak is known for her immense passion for the ancient rock art prevalent inIndia and all over the world. India has one of the major concentrations of this amazing visible testimonyto our rich cultural heritage which is also her field of study. She was awarded doctorate under thefellowship of University Grants Commission of India for her study on ‘Pre-Historic Rock Paintings of Pachmarhi hills’. She continued to further explore and document rock art of Pachmarhi in M.P. (India)and discovered many rock art shelters painted by early men in the wilderness of Satpura National Park and she has protected many sites with the support of the Forest Department of M.P.
The explorations of rock art by her did not confine only to pictographs of Pachmarhi and other parts of Central India. She has seized the opportunity of discovering certain sites of petroglyphs in Leh-Laddakh region in the state of Jammu & Kashmir in North India and explored and documented a number of them. She has set up a petroglyph park named “Trishul Petroglyph Park” with the help of the Indian Army at Karu about 30km from Leh on Leh-Manali road. It has become one of the spots frequented by tourists.
She has brought the findings of her explorations to the knowledge of rock art fraternity through print and electronic media, numerous professional journals and presentations in many seminars in India and abroad and acknowledged significantly by rock art forums world over. Her objectives in public domain are to popularise the art and work for its preservation. She has voluntary conducted many workshops for the children and students of arts and history of arts educating them about motivation, heritage value and need of preservation of rock art. Her works of bringing out rock art on oil, acrylic and water colors on canvas, glass and posters, respectively are aimed at drawing attention and spreading awareness about the rock art amongst people.
She has held many solo exhibitions in many parts of India well as aboard like, in Kathmandu (1988),Ujjain(1989) Milano, Italy (1990), Bhopal(1991), Pune (1992), Shillong (1995), Jodhpur (1998), Pachmarhi (2000) and Agra(2004)Ranchi(2005)Mathura(2006)Delhi(2007)Sukhana(2008)Rewa(2009)Tarascon,France(2010)Paris,
France(2011)Valladolid,Spain(2011)Colonge,Germany(2011)Bhopal(2011).towards achieving this objective as well.
Prehistoric Rock Paintings have endured rain, sun and thunderstorm for thousand of years. Now they face a more potent threat man. We need to protect and preserve the rock art wherever they are!!!! If we protect these paintings, can be learn more about this ancient from and the long vanished civilization that gave it life.
The inspiration for the work of reflecting rock art on papyrus, canvas, rock pieces, glass and tree bark by Dr Meenakshi Pathak (student of Padamshree Dr Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar,) comes from her immense passion for the ancient world of rock art prevalent in India and all over the world. India has a major concentration of this amazing visible testimony to our rich cultural heritage, Which is also her field of study. Discovery of many painted shelters in the wilderness of Satpura National Park had been her significant and well acknowledged contribution in the field.
Her work of depicting rock art on rock pieces is to let viewers know as to how these wonderful art forms often found in areas difficult to access actually appear in the cave and shelters. The work of acrylic on papyrus and oil on canvas are aimed at creating awareness and attraction for the rock art. Some of her work has collection in India and abroad.
