RS Pura 13 Jan: National Secular Forum, R.S.Pura Unit organized a programmed and celebrated Lohri with Jawans of 35th Battalion BSF, Who come from different parts of the country, at Octroi Post in RS Pura sector.
Sh.Ankush Aborl, Member Working Committee JKCA, was the Chief Guest, Vikas Sharma State President NSF, presided over the function; Romesh Choudhary was the Special guest, C.L.Upadhaya Assistant Commandant, Rakesh Chib, President JURSEA, and Surjit Choudhary District Chairman, were the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh.Ankush Aborl appreciated the efforts of NSF members to come forwarded and organized these function. He expressed hope that such a function is a reflection of centuries old traditional communal harmony and brotherhood among different sections and faiths of the society. He said that Lohri is a vibrant festival which marks the end of winter and signifies the harvesting of Rabi crops. He also said that people in northern India eagerly wait for the season as it is the time to make harvesting celebrations with friends and family members.
Vikas Sharma said “let the history be created with love and affection, peace and stability”. According to them this will be the message of today’s function. He said that Lohri is also an occasion when parents give present to their newly married daughters.
Romesh Choudhary appreciated the efforts of NSF members and stressed upon the youth to shun their self centered outlook and contribute in the development of the nation. He also appealed to the youth to come forward to eliminate all evils from the society.
C.L.Upadhaya said Lohri is celebrated throughout the country in different forms, as a harvest festival. It is called Pongal in the South, Bhugali Bihu in Assam, Bhogi in Andhra Pradesh and Sankranti in the central part of the country.
Rakesh Chib, President JURSEA, also addressing gathering and said that Lohri is fundamentally an agricultural festival, filled with merry-making. It is celebrated in the state of Punjab on the on the 13th of January, which falls one day before Makar Sankranti. While Lohri is essentially a Punjab festival, it is celebrated in some other states of North India as well.
Surjit Choudhary, also address and said that Lohri marks the beginning of a new financial year because on this day they settle the division of the products of the land between themselves and the tillers.
The jawans expressed their overwhelming joy and extended gratitude to the NSF’ activists for remembering them on the festival.
