Jammu, 26 June 2008:The Band Competition of the Tiger Division ended today in a grand ceremony at Tiger Helipad Ground. A total of 11 bands of various Infantry Battalions of the Tiger Division participated in the competition.
Since time immemorial music has been used on the battlefield to inspire men to fight. The first Indian Band was raised in October 1950 under the patronage of Field Marshal KM Cariappa and since then the Bands of the Indian Army have grown from strength to strength.
The final day ended with a grand finale in the form of a mass band display and beating the retreat in which bands from all the units participated. Maj Gen DL Chowdhary, GOC, TIGER Division gave away the trophy to the band adjudged best and awards to the first and second runners up. 3/8 GR won the trophy and adjudged best band in Tiger Division.
