All India Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (AIFUCTO) today condemned the decision taken by Cabinet of Punjab to repeal the pension scheme of 1996 meant for staff of aided colleges. Dr. Jagwant Singh, Vice-President, AIFUCTO said that it is shameful that the Govt. has been keeping the pension scheme issued in 1996, in limbo on one pretext or the other and now in the face of an interim order of Punjab and Haryana High Court to implement the pension scheme has withdrawn the scheme itself. He said that it is highly regrettable that Punjab is the only state amongst the category A states which is not paying any pension to the staff. He said that it is painful that when court was about to deliver justice, Govt. took all steps to deny justice despite repeated assurances and promises by Akali Dal in its manifestos to implement the scheme. It has been repealed despite the fact that the scheme was duly approved by the Punjab Assembly through unanimous resolution.
