Amritsar, May 9 : “Aiming high, deep commitment, hard work of students and teachers and blessing of parents always lead to success”, said Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice Chancellor of the Guru Nanak Dev University while speaking at the felicitating ceremony of Ms. Rukmani Riar for securing second position in the All India Civil Services Exams- 2011. Prof. Brar honor Ms. Rukhmani and her parents with mementos on behalf of the University.
This function was organized by the School of Social Sciences, where Ms. Rukmani Riar did her graduation in 2008 with Gold Medal and Distinction and started her journey from the School to the Civil Services. Dr. S.S. Sohal Singh, Head of the Department welcomed Ms. Riar and her parents. Prof. Gurnam Singh, former Head of the Department, Faculty Members and number of students were also present on this occasion. Dr. Anjali Mehra presented a vote of thanks
Prof. Brar said that freedom of any kind should not be misused at any cost. He advised students to shed bad habits and work hard in discipline to achieve their mission in life. He also advised students to respect their teachers and parents and avoid shortcuts in life, as shortcut is never a solution to success.
Ms. Rukmani while speaing on this occasion thanked the Vice-Chancellor and others for honoring her. She gave the credited of this success to her teachers, parents and her colleagues. While talking about her success mantra, she underlined the fact that her attempt was basically structured on the class notes she prepared during graduation. She advised the students to fix their targets and work hard. She also shared her experiences with the Students of the University. Her father Mr. B.S. Riar, credited the School for laying down the foundation on which Rukmani could make her family, University and Punjab proud.
Prof. Gurnam Singh highlighted the uniqueness of the course being run by the School of Social Sciences of the University. Prof. Sohal reiterated the fact that last year, three students from the School Ms. Daljit Kuar, Jatin Chopra and Barjinder Singh had cleared Civil Services exams and expressed the hope that more success stories would unfold in the time to come.
Meanwhile, Prof. Jagrup Singh Sekhon, Head All India Services Pre-examinations Training Centre and Centre of Preparation for Competitive Examinations of the University said that Ashwani Kumar, Mohan Lal, Gurjit Singh, Pawanjit Singh, Madhur Bhatia, Gurpreet Singh, Lakhbir Singh, Davinder Paliaal, Gurdev Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Bikramjit Singh, Vikram Singh Dhillon, Simpal Kochar and Mohit Mehra of has also cleared the Punjab Civil Services Main Examination.
