25 Nov : Jammu, November 25 : The Non Gazetted Employees Union, University of Jammu has appealed the Chancellor of the University of Jammu and Governor of Jammu and Kashmir H E. Mr. NN Vohra to extend the term of Professor Amitabh Mattoo for another three years as Vice Chancellor University of Jammu.
This was stated by the President of the 1Vth Class Employees Union Mr. Krishen Chand while addressing the General Body meeting of the Union held at the office of the Union here this afternoon.
President of the 1Vth Class Employees Union Krishen Chand said that since the Professor Amitabh Mattoo has taken over as Vice Chancellor University of Jammu six year back, the varsity has achieved new heights. "Six years back when Professor Amitabh Mattoo took over as Vice Chancellor of the Varsity, it was tough job for them to put the University of Jammu on the track of development at every sphere at international level, but Professor Amitabh Mattoo with his wisdom and vision has not only got recognition for University of Jammu nationally but internationally," Krishen Chand said adding that under his stewardship, the University of Jammu has emerged as a centre of academic and extra-curricular excellence.
Krishen Chand said "In infrastructure, the University can today compete with the best institutions of higher education, nationally and internationally. Jammu University is the first public university in India to be certified ISO-9001:2000 in terms of the quality of its management systems. In a record period of a little over two years, the University has built the Zorawar Singh auditorium Complex, which includes two auditoriums, a museum and an art gallery which showcase the pluralistic heritage of the state. No other University in the country has such a state-of-the-art convention complex."
He said that Professor Amitabh Mattoo became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University six year back and during these years University of Jammu has witnessed a radical transformation despite being located in tension-ridden state. "The University has also deeply engaged with the region’s civil society and launched many unprecedented initiatives." President of the 1Vth Class Employees Union said
He said that keeping in view the Contribution of Professor Amitabh Mattoo towards higher education, it is in the best interest of the University of Jammu as well as for entire Jammu and Kashmir state that Professor Amitabh Mattoo should be given three years extension as Vice Chancellor University of Jammu. "Our appeal to HE Mr. NN Vohra , the Chancellor of the University and Governor of the state is that not only University of Jammu need further guidance from Professor Amitabh Mattoo, but entire Jammu and Kashmir needs the help and guidance of Professor Amitabh Mattoo at this stage when entire state is once again burning in the war of hatred and regionalism," he said
President of the 1Vth Class Employees Union, Mr Krishen Chand also thanks the Vice Chancellor, Professor Amitabh Mattoo for making the recruitment process in the University transparent. "If our demand regarding the another three year extension to Professor Amitabh Mattoo will not be fulfilled , the University fraternity will be forced to come on roads," he said adding that Union has launched an Signature Campaign to press the Government to extend three year term to Professor Amitabh Mattoo, copy of which have been sent to HE NN Vohra.
President further maintained that all the voices of University of Jammu have already formally written to His Excellency the Chancellor and the Chairperson and members of the Search Committee to request them for granting Prof. Amitabh Mattoo another three year term as Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu. "We also appeal to Prof. Amitabh Mattoo to continue serving the University as a true son of the soil of J&K. The memory of the critical role played Prof. Amitabh Mattoo in bringing peace to the Jammu region , when it plunged into deep crisis during the summer is still fresh in the minds of the people, apart from his other contributions," added President
