6 July : As mercury dipped following the monsoon showers, the power demand in the city plunged sharply on Tuesday although several areas continue to face outages for varying duration.
The peak power demand in the city was recorded at 3,639 mw which remained in the range of 4,400 mw to 4,700 mw in the few weeks.
“The maximum load peaked to 3,639 MW at 4:10 pm while the minimum load was recorded at 2701 at 5:30 am,” said a power department official.
The power demand had broken all previous records when it went up to 4,720 MW on 1st July, the highest ever peak demand in Delhi.
The previous highest power requirement in the city was recorded on 21st June when the demand had touched 4,688 megawatts.
Despite the dip in demand, several areas across the capital faced a string of power cuts ranging from one to four hours due to local faults and technical snags in the distribution networks.
Power department officials said most of the power cuts occurred due to local faults in transmission lines caused by rain.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit last week had told discoms to improve maintenance of the distribution network so that local faults do not occur.
The monsoon had hit the city on Monday and it received several spells of rain so far. The maximum temperature Tuesday was recorded at 32.7 degree Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 25.8 degrees.
