28 Nov : Muslims across India are celebrating Id-Al-Azha (Bakrid) on Saturday to commemorate the willingness of prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi have greeted the nation on the occasion of Id Al Azha. Meanwhile the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia has urged Muslims to come out against Terrorism.
On this day, Muslims sacrifice goats to commemorate the action of Prophet Ibrahim, who willingly agreed to kill his son at the behest of God. Prayers are offered in the mosques and the sacrificial meat is then distributed after Eid prayers and exchange of greetings and gifts.
The festival also marks the completion of Haj. On this day, special ‘dua’ is recited by thousands of Muslims for peace and prosperity. Also, this is the day when holy Quran was declared complete.
Muslims in Kerala joined devotees all over the world to celebrate the festival of Eid Al Azha on Friday.
Prayers were held in mosques and Id-Gahs across the state. Thousands of believers participated in the prayers in Kozhikode, Malappuram and other districts in the state.
Meanwhile millions of pilgrims from all over the world gathered at the mount Arafat near Mecca for the final leg of the Hajj on Friday.
