Good Friday is being observed by Christians all over the world today. The day signifies crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary.
Special prayers and holy masses in various languages English, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam are being held since early morning at world famous Velankanni Shrine in Tamil Nadu.
Pilgrims from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Maharashtra have thronged Velankanni.
In Goa, special prayers and masses have been organised in all the churches and Chapels to mark Good Friday. Several programmes including mass prayers are being held to mark the occasion.
This day is important for culminating an observance called Lent. This Lent is generally observed during the months of February and March.
Starting from the Ash Wednesday, it stretches for 40 days and ends on Good Friday.
