Chandigarh, February 27 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, today said that the three-member committee constituted by the State Government to gather information concerning the alleged incident of sexual assault on some women near Murthal, has started investigation into the matter.
The Chief Minister, who was interacting with media persons after a function in Panchkula, said that any person who had any information about the alleged incident should contact the special team, for which phone numbers had already been provided.He said that efforts were being made to identify those involved in the incident as strict action would be taken against them.
He reiterated his appeal to the people to come forward and contact the police if they had any information regarding the unlawful activities.
Meanwhile, the three-member committee today visited the site of the alleged incident in Murthal and interacted with the people. However, the team did not find any concrete evidence of the alleged incident.
While stating this today, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Dr Rajshree Singh, who is heading the committee, said that the team had started its investigation into the matter and had already talked to a large number of people, including those mentioned in media reports.
She said that the team, which included Deputy Superintendents of Police, Ms. Bharti Dbas and Ms. Surinder Kaur, would also interact with the people living in the villages Hassanpur and Kurar.
Replying to a question about a truck operator claiming to have witnessed the alleged incident, the DIG said that such eyewitnesses should come forward and talk to the police.
Assuring protection to such informers, the DIG said that if any person had any evidence concerning the incident or had witnessed the incident, they could directly meet the members of the committee without any fear and their identity would not be disclosed.
