As soon as the House assembled for the day, SP, RJD and some JD (U) members criticised the government’s “autocratic move” to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon. When the house reassembled at 12 noon, SP, RJD and JD(U) members again started slogan against the govt over the women’s reservation bill, it was again adjourned till 2 pm.
RJD and Samajwadi Party members on Wednesday staged a walked out in Rajya Sabha demanding revocation of the suspenion of seven members who were marshalled out from the House for their “unruly” behaviour while protesting against the Women’s Reservation Bill.
As soon as the Question Hour began, the issue was raised by Ramgopal Yadav (SP) and supported by RJD members.
Even CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury favoured the revocation of the suspension.
Members from the treasury benches, however, insisted that the suspended members should tender apology.
CPM Leader Sitaram Yechury also demanded that the suspension of the 7 MPs be revoked on Wednesday itself.
Yechury also urged the government to ensure that the Women Reservation Bill is passed in the current budget session.
He hoped that the spirit of overwhelming support from BJP, Left and Congress on the bill will continue in the Lower House also.
