The India Post, Chandigarh, 4th November, 2008 :Punjab and Haryana High Court has decided to constitute benches for Daily Lok Adalats in the premises of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. The new constituted benches of the Lok Adalat and the mediation centers will be inaugurated on November 8 by Hon’ble Judge of Supreme Court, Justice Mr. S P Sinha.
A press conference was held today in this regard. Justice Mr. K. S. Grewal, Chairman High Court Legal Services Committee, Justice Mr. Mahesh Grover, Chairman High Court Mediation and Conciliation Committee addressed the Press conference.
Justice Grewal informed that 3 new benches of the Lok Adalats at High Court for High Court Cases has been constituted for expediting the disposal of cases by amicable settlement. He further said that one retired judge of High Court will be presiding officer and one retired judge of District Court would be the member of the bench.
Justice Grewal further said the major objective of the press conference was to create awareness among the general public for getting their case disposed of through the mediation of Lok Adalat.
Justice Mr. Mahesh Grover apprised the media personnel about the mediation centers which will start functioning from November 9 in the states of Punjab and Haryana and also told that in the Union Territory, Chandigarh the mediation center is already working in District Court Complex, Sector 17.
Justice Grover also told about the benefits of mediation and averred that the trained mediator have been appointed for the mediation purpose.
Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Mr. Majit was also present during the press conference.
