Chandigarh, January 16; Today, when as part of their ongoing ‘Total Sanitation Campaign’, the volunteers of Yuvsatta along with artists of Mask Theatre reached Labour chowk to spread the message of healthy life-style and Sanitation by street play and public meetings, they were appalled to hear Joginder Pal, President of Rotary Community Club of Colony No. 5, when in his welcome address he shared that there are just 200 odd toilet seats for a population of more than 40,000 in Colony No. 5, which comes to just one toilet seat for 200 people. Plus adding to their woes there is no provision of adequate sweepers or drainage in the area and drinking water going waste through many faulty taps has now become a routine affair.
Another resident & social worker Anil Kumar rued that one can well imagine the plight of women and young girls how they’re living their life in this slum area without even bare minimum facilities of a proper toilet and situation becomes even worse especially during this chilly weather and during rains.
So, before addressing the people about importance of imbibing good personal hygiene practices especially hand washing, segregation of waste & ensuring cleanliness of their locality, volunteers of Yuvsatta promised to take up the issue of provision of adequate number of toilets for the people with concerned officials and leaders in Chandigarh.
