Chandigarh, September 11, 2009: Today the Peace Club of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36 in association with YUVSATTA organized a Peace & Brotherhood Day in the College campus to mark the 103rd anniversary of birth of Satyagraha.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Jyoti Khanna, Principal of the College said that on NINE ELEVEN (September 11)1906 the most powerful form of nonviolence, namely Satyagraha, the strategic nonviolent action, was born under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi in Johannesburg of South Africa. Since that date till today people all over the world have found an absolute and ultimately powerful ‘weapon’ that has proved its efficacy in humbling and restraining the forces of violence, exploitation, domination and imperialism. And taking a step further United Nations has also declared October 2nd as an International Day of Nonviolence.
She further added that as a befitting tribute to Mahatma their College today observed the birth of Satyagraha in the shape of a Peace & Brotherhood Day with organizing a film show of documentary film ‘A FORCE MORE POWERFUL’, showing examples of power and efficacy of practice of nonviolence around the world.
Prominent amongst those who interacted with children included Parmod Sharma, Coordinator of Peace Clubs in Chandigarh plus Yuvsatta & Kristeen a volunteer from Bethecause, USA.
Richa Chhibber, Incharge of Peace Club of the School presented a vote of thanks on the occasion.
