Chandigarh, May 15:Encouraged by the success and popularity of workshops held during the last 15 years, the Pracheen Kala Kendra, this year again, has decided to organise the Production-oriented Workshop on Dance and Theatrical arts for the children of age group of 5 to 16 years. The month-long workshops will be held from May 20 to June 24, 2008 daily from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at both the premises of the Kendra — Sector-35/B, Chandigarh and Sector-71, Mohali.
Childhood is an impressionable age and what is learnt at this age will bear results tomorrow. Summer vacations is the best period whereby, instead of letting the children spend time idle or watching TV, fruitful engagement in extra-curricular activities to enhance and add to various facets of personality or allied forms is must. The Kendra has successfully been organising workshops for the past 15 years to keep the children occupied with creative activities so as to serve as catalyst in bringing out their hidden talents to engender spirit of togetherness and collaboration.
The reasons for starting these workshops was to benefit those children who due to various reasons could not join the regular classes but they had a desire to learn and to be acquainted with these arts.
The workshop in Dance will be conducted by renowned Kathak danseuse Samira Koser, disciple of Guru Shobha Koser. She will impart basic knowledge and techniques of classical and folk dances of various states, make-up and costume designing, hand gestures and will help the children to better appreciate our classical arts heritage. From June 2, Dance workshop at Mohali will be held under the direction of Renu Panth.
In the Theatre workshops, the children will be given basic knowledge of Theatrical arts including acting, make-up & costume, action, body movement, speech-modulation, story telling, creative writing music and theatre games etc. which is bound to elicit keen interest amongst the participating school children. The Theatre workshop will be conducted by experienced and well-known theatre and serial artists Parveen Jaggi (in Chandigarh) and Anita Shabdeesh (Mohali). They will be assisted by their crew members.
Since the workshops are production oriented, all the children will expose their talent and will perform in the programme to be organised at the end of the workshop. Participants will also be awarded certificates. Please do come and enroll your children for the workshops. Registrations are open.
