Chandigarh, May 19: With a view to maintain optimum standards of care in the Child Care Institutions as per the Provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and to monitor such Institutions effectively, the Department of Social Welfare has deputed 17 field functionaries of the department to ensure that no Child Care Institution is run by the Govt / Voluntary organizations without registration under the Provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
All the institutions being run by the Voluntary Organizations / State / Board / Corporations are requested to apply for registration to the Director, Social Welfare Chandigarh Administration before 10th June, 2012. The prescribed format for registration is available in the Department of Social Welfare, Town Hall Extension Building Sector -17, Chandigarh. Strict action would be taken against institutions found functioning without valid registration.
The Company Secretary, Chandigarh Child & Women Development Corporation has been given the task of scrutinizing applications of the voluntary organizations approaching the department for such registration.
Under Sub-Section 3 of Section 34 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006, it is mandatory for all the Institutions for Children in Need of Care & Protection whether run by the State Government or those run by Voluntary Organizations to be registered with the Competent Registration Authority.
Chandigarh Administration has appointed the Director Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration as Competent Registration Authority to issue registration certificates to the institutions being run by the State/Voluntary Organizations for Children in need of Care & Protection in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
