Chandigarh, September 22, 2012: Feverish preparations await World Tourism Week celebrations in Chandigarh this year. A series of tourism oriented events and activities have been planned by the Department of Tourism Chandigarh Administration and CITCO. A week long programme, scheduled to be kicked off from September 24th will have Special Features like CLEAN CHANDIGARH CAMPAIGN under the special scheme of Ministry of Tourism Government of India, Bollywood evening, Punjabi night Hungama, Chandigarh Street Art and Street Food Festival and lot of competitions with massive participation of school children . With the preparations on full swing, Chandigarh city is all set for a packed week of events and special offers to celebrate World Tourism Week from 24th September – 30th September, 2012.
On 24th September, as a part of Clean India Campaign, Chandigarh cleanliness drive shall be initiated at the most popular Shopping centre Sector 17 followed by another Cleanliness Drive in association with the Railway at the Chandigarh Railway Station. The Hotel Associations – Hotel & Restaurant Association of Chandigarh (HRAC), Chandigarh Hotel Association (CHA) , Business promotion council and shopkeepers ,sector 17 shall be involved in these cleanliness Campaigns associated with Municipal Corporation UT .the opening day will also have a Seminar on Clean Chandigarh at UT Guest House Chandigarh.
Whereas on 25th September, there will be Run for Tourism at 7 am Starting from Open Hand Monument passing through Bougainvillea Garden, Leisure Valley and culminating at Govt. Museum & Art Gallery, Sector-10, Chandigarh. On 26th September, Tourism Quiz shall be organized at Auditorium, Museum & Art Gallery, Sector-10 with the participation of school children across the tricity. The World Tourism day i.e 27th September will unveil with the Morning Raga performance by Subhash Ghosh at Sukhna Lake. Citizens and tourists can witness Bollywood thunderous performances by renowned Singers on 27th September at Plaza Sector 17.
There will also be participation by the Hotel management institutes Students of CIHM, IHM & Chandigarh Hotel Association shall give give traditional welcome to tourists at Airport & Railway Station by offering Rose buds & distribution of tourist literature. Special Food Festival, Flower Competition, cookery & Bakery Competition will also be organized at IHM & CIHM.
According to the director Tourism, Tanvi Garg IAS, “ Hotels and Restaurants shall also offer special discounts and packages on World Tourism Day. To give special glittering effect to the World Tourism Week celebrations the prominent buildings and monuments will be Illuminated such as Open Hand Monument, UT Secretariat Building, Le Corbusier Centre Sector 19, Government College of Arts and Tourist Information Centre, Sector-17 etc.
As part of World Tourism Week celebrations , CITCO, Department of Tourism and NZCC shall organiseCITCO STREET ART AND STREET FOOD FESTIVAL at Sukhna Lake .The street food festival will be organized at CITCO’s lake cafeteria while the STREET ART FESTIVAL shall be organized on the closed area on the road and in the adjoining area of the lake .The road shall be closed between 4 pm – 9 pm and this area shall become the main focal point of festivities . the Festival promises to be a complete treat for art lovers encompassing so many activities by artists, painters, sculptors, and potters, photographers displaying their art and performing live. Demos from renowned artists of the city, rock bands, live music, fusion dance,piano performance, violin performance jive(choreographed dance), street plays and installations and an array of other exciting arty activities can provide a never-before experience to Chandigarh.The participation is open to all amateur and professional artists and performers in various art forms.
