21 Nov : The Sociology Department of Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized an Exhibition KNOW YOUR CULTURES today. Mrs. Promila Kaushal, Principal of the college, Chief Guest on the occasion inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional Ladakhi Deepak in the religious corner set up by the Ladakhi students.
The students of Sociology Department showcased the traditions and culture of the North-Eastern state of Manipur, and of Ladakh. Their traditional colourful dresses were a treat to watch and the portrayal of their rich, varied culture and customs enlightened the students about these regions of India. They presented a collection of traditional dresses worn on various festive occasions. A slide-show depicting the geographical details of the state, the flora and fauna, traditional dances, folk instruments was a great attraction for the students of other regions of the country. A Manipuri folk song sung by Ms. Bindeshwari was highly appreciated. Though the audience could not understand the Manipuri lyrics, her melodious voice enthralled one and all. The gathering also witnessed the spellbound performances of Manipuri and Ladakhi traditional dances. Principal Mrs. Promila Kaushal congratulated the students on their sparkling performance and motivated them to preserve the cultural diversity of the country.
In another function Department of Sociology along with NSS Unit of the college celebrated World prayer Day as a part of National Integration Week. The Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC) took the initiative of celebrating World Prayer Day and to bring together children of the world in peace and harmony for realization of every child’s right to attain full physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.
The Home Science Department also organized a lecture on Diet,Immunity and Health,by Ms. Manju Mathur, Chief Dietician,GMCH-32 . She discussed in detail about the super foods that can boost the immunity and provide protection against various diseases.
