Chandigarh, Oct 21- Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that all those players of Haryana, who had represented India at the recent Commonwealth Games, but were unable to win any medal, would be given Rs two lakh each.
He said that it has already been decided to give cash awards of Rs.15 lakh, Rs.10 lakh and Rs.five lakh to the winners of Gold,Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the Commonwealth Games.
He said that a total of 54 sportspersons of Haryana had participated in the Commonwealth Games and the players of the State bagged 32 medals including 17 Gold medals, seven Silver medals and eight Bronze medals. The Indian contingent had won a total of 101 medals, he added.
It may be recalled that on Mr Hooda’s initiative, the management of the Maruti Udyog Limited had agreed to give Maruti cars to all medal winners of Commonwealth Games, hailing from Haryana.
While keeping in view Maruti Udyog’s long association with Haryana, the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had taken up the matter with MUL Management in Japan which agreed to his proposal. Each of the Gold medal winners will get SX4, Silver medal winners would get Maruti Dezire and Bronze medal winner would get WagonR.
He said that a State level function would be organised at Sonepat on the occasion of Haryana Day on November 1 to honour medal winners and participants of Commonwealth Games.
