14 Sep : The Dept of Hindi organized a function today, titled ‘ Hindi Gaan’, on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, at Gandhi Bhawan, PU. Apart from students of the Department, students of Dept. of Music , Dept. of Sociology PU also presented their renderings in the event. The Govt. College For Girls Sector 11, Chandigarh, also chipped in with some very beautiful individual and group items.Prof. Satish Mullick , former Professor of IIT Kanpur brought in Rabinder-Sangeet.
Prof. Yashpal, founder-head of dept of music, Pu , and a great exponent of Agra Gharana, presided over the proceedings.
Dr. Pankajmala, Chairperson, Dept. of Music PU, Dr. Pankaj Malviya , Chairperson,Russian Studies Dept. and Ratna Kumar Ratnesh, well-known story-writer were also present at this time.
Music is inseparable part of Poetry, in any form of Poetry, particularly when it is in Song form. More so, the poetry of yesteryears was very much attached to Music and this statement is so much evident in day-today life that it does not need further elaboration. The present pro gramme tried to find relationship between poetry and music, particularly Hindi poetry.
It began with Sarswati-vandana by Hindi dept. students. Alaka of MA third semester sang पद of meera. It was followed by gajals of Dushyant kumar by Anoop kaur and Suman of ist semester. Harish( MA first semester) sung ‘ janani janambhoomi’ by jaishankar prasad. Aashish of music dept. presented sagun-bhakti song.Sagarika from the GCW 11 sang the immortal song’ jayoti kalash chalake’. Sorav sood ( music dept). sung bhajans of Meera. Aarti , sunita , saagrika from GCW 11 rendered dohas of kabir in group. Prof. Mullick sung ‘ Anand Dhara ” and ‘ Tum kaise sur mein guni’ by Rabindernath Tagore in Rabinder Sangeet style. Under the able guidance of Dr. Preeti, Aarti, shilpa and group( GCW Sector 11) came with an Indian Orchestra presentation. Rohit from Sociology dept.brought in a Pahadi Folk song, ‘ Bheta Teriyan “. The finalist of Voice of Panjab and Awaj panjab Di, Supninder Kaur ( Sociology Dept. ) sung Shiv Kumar Batalavi ( Maye ni Maye Mere Gettan de Bolaan vich Birhon di radak pave ) and followed it with her touching Punjabi folk number. Kuljjt presented lyrical poetry and Aashish ended the event with Tulsidas’s poetry in his melodious voice.
On this occasion Dr, Virendra Mehandiratta observed that word gives a dimension to the music and music helps the word to reach to masses as it was evident in medieval poets like Kabir.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Yashpaul said Hindi and Music are related like Body and soul. Hindi is basically a secular language and poets like Amir Khusaro are examples. The direction given by Gandhi to Hindi is the best course to follow. Sangeet comes from heart and only a pure heart can produce great music.
He also exhibited his great musical skills by singing Meera and some of his own creations like Durga -gaan and Shankar- gaan.
Dr. Satyapal Sehgal, chairperson of the dept. proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Baijnath Prasad, in charge Hindi Sahitya Parishad conducted the proceedings.
