26 June : On 26th June every year the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) celebrates International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Theme for this year is "Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your community. No place for drugs". Drug De-addiction and Treatment Center (DDTC), Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER, celebrates the day by organizing some activities which bring the community closer to our Center. It helps the community to understand how the Center can help them in dealing with the menace of addiction. In this year’s endeavor the DDTC organized a two day poster exhibition in the New OPD Block of PGIMER. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Director of PGIMER. The Director took keen interest in illustrative posters on various types of addictions. He appreciated imaginative paintings made by children on the deleterious effect of tobacco. He was particularly impressed by a poster with a narrative in his own handwriting by one of our ex-patients about how he got into the addiction, how he was treated at the DDTC, and how he was living his newfound drug-free normal life.
At the exhibition free leaflets related to drug abuse were distributed; people appreciated these for their informative content.
Video shows were also organized depicting the deleterious effects of drug addiction on human life.
