The India Post,Chandigarh, 1 December, 2008 : On world’s AIDS Day, Center for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension and University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development adopted 50 students of class 10th from Govt. High School , Sec-25, Chandigarh and their families. These students belong to marginalized section of society and live in Bhaskar Colony & nearby Villages. Faculty and students of UIFT and CACEE, resolved to visit these adopted families once a month and spread awareness about health, hygiene, nutriturion, environment besides HIV/AIDS, its symptoms, transmission, spread, precautions, treatment, safe blood transactions etc. Students have named their group as “UIFT-Red Ribbon Brigade.”
A Poster making Competition on the theme “HIV- The Demon” was also held to mark the day. Pawan Kumar, Alpa Sharma & Himanshu secured first, second and third position respectively.
Ms. Ravinder Kaur, Principal of the Govt. High School , Sec-25, Chandigarh welcomed the resolution and agreed to provide all help and cooperation. Dr. Sween said that this is done to inculcate right values and sense of social responsibility among the students. Dr. Paramjit Singh Kang, Project Officer from this centre shall be Incharge of this University Community Participation Program according to Director, Center for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, PU.
